Natural Product Issues

For the past few years, the all-natural trend has touched everything from personal care products to cleaning items. Chemicals are frowned upon in many circles as people become more conscious of their health and the environment. However, there is some information to be aware of.

As you know, Sole Sorcery sells balms. These balms are 100% natural, made with only coconut oil, avocado oil, shea butter, beeswax, and essential oils. Plant-based butters (such as shea, mango, and cocoa) are decadent, luxurious and moisturizing, but after a period of time, some changes may occur. Now, we don't expect for our products to last long enough for this to happen, because we know you use them up right away!

Shea butter contains fatty acids. Some of these fatty acids have different melting points. Those with lower melting points change from liquid to solid faster than fatty acids with higher melting points.

When you purchase our balms, they may encounter changes in temperature. This can occur when: a) the weather is extremely warm during transit when the balm is mailed to you, or b) when you take the balm from one place to another where there is an extreme difference in climate (such as leaving the balm in a hot car and then taking it indoors, etc.) If the balm melts and then re-solidifies, the fatty acids may become solid again at different rates. This may cause graininess or crystallization in your balm, which can also occur with the simple passage of time.

However, this is a perfectly normal occurrence in plant-based butters, and does not affect the effectiveness of your balm! Simply warm your balm in your hands, and the smoothness will return.

And remember, in the event that your product does melt for whatever reason, you can place it in the refrigerator until it regains its previous texture. Let me know if you have any questions, and enjoy your balm!
