I grew up deep in the church, although at the time of my youth, Reiki and energy healing were unheard of. What was often discussed was the 'laying on of hands,' where members of the church would pray over one another, touching the individual on the shoulder, arm, or head, as if to reinforce God's work.
In modern days, Reiki now causes a deep divide between Christians. Some label it as evil or occult (the meaning of these two words is not synonymous), while others liken it to the laying on of hands. Bible verses are thrown backwards and forwards as ammunition, each one adding validity to the argument of the opposing sides.
I find no conflict between the two. I believe that Reiki is an extension of God's (or whatever name you use to describe a higher power) healing, that works through us. However, to provide my own biblical ammunition, I present Mark 16:15-18 (italics added): 15 And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In My name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. Those who believe shall have the power to heal.... What is your opinion? ~ Shelby Fizer Comments are closed.
