Using Oils
So, you just received your package in the mail. Excitement courses through your body as you open the box and unwrap your new oil. You're ready to get started.... but how do you use it?
The answer is, however you decide. Now, depending on the nature of your work, there may be specific steps you must follow. If this is the case, then you will likely already know what to do, or will be following instructions. Oils are commonly used in spiritual belief systems such as hoodoo, also known as conjure, rootwork, or African American folk magic. Anointing with oil is also a sacrament commonly performed in the Bible. However, if you plan to develop your own personalized ritual, then you should allow your intuition to guide you.
Before moving forward, some important information about oils. Unless otherwise indicated, they are meant for external use only. In addition, depending upon the ingredients in the oil, they may not be safe for application on the skin. This is why you should always pay close attention to the product description and any instructions. In addition, to avoid an allergic reaction, test a small amount of the oil on your skin first. Now, here are some suggestions for how to use your oil.
Anointing the Body
Apply the oil to specific areas of the body where you plan to focus your intention. For example, over the heart for matters of love, on an arthritic knee for healing, or on the head for memory and concentration. If your oil is very aromatic, you can wear it as a fragrance. On the other end of the spectrum, some oils are not intended to be worn as a perfume, and are lightly scented, or only carry the natural scents of the herbs and spices.
Dressing Objects
You can dress, or apply oil to, your objects of interest, such as:
• Candles
• Clothing
• Money/Wallets
• Important documents
Adding to Other Items
Supplementing items with your oil ensures that you will consistently use it. Put a few drops of it in your:
• Spiritual bath
• Mop Bucket/Cleaning Spray Bottle
• Laundry Wash or Dry Cycle
• Personal care products (lotions, etc.)
